The Implementation of the Target Model | The Next Day for the Electricity Market in Greece

The Hellenic Association for Energy Economics (HAEE) had the pleasure to continue its Virtual Events Series and host a 30-minute conversation, on Thursday, December 3 at 13.00 pm EET, with Professor George Ioannou, Chief Executive Officer of Energy Exchange Group, to discuss how he views the next day for the Greek electricity market few days after the implementation of the Target Model.

The implementation of the long-awaited Target Model, launched on 1 November 2020, is an important step towards the European Integration of the energy market with multiple benefits for participants and consumers.

Professor George Ioannou, CEO of Energy Exchange Group, shared his thoughts on the results of the first days of the Target Model function, the recent developments on the electricity market, the role of HEnEx in the wider areas of Balkans and SE Europe, as well as, the potential of Greece to become an Energy Hub in the region.

On top of that, the virtual discussion focused on the structural changes that accompany the implementation of the Target Model, the expectations and challenges brought by the Target Model for all the participants. Issues such as the supervisory mechanism, the market coupling with Italy and Bulgaria and the impact on wholesale prices were also reviewed.
