Symposium Overview and Objectives The Hellenic Association for Energy Economics is happy to announce that the 8th HAEE Energy Transition Symposium “Rethinking Energy: The new state of play for a secure and sustainable future”, will be held from Wednesday, 10 May to Friday, 12 May 2023. For yet another year, the annual Symposium will serve as an open-dialogue platform, where state, academia and private sector representatives will contribute to debates and exchange of views on crucial energy matters. The global energy sector is facing unprecedented challenges impacting short-term and long-term climate goals. 2022 is undoubtedly a milestone year, forcing governments to reconsider their strategic priorities and the trilemma “security of supply, affordability, and sustainability” is more topical than ever. Amid the major changes taking place, a new energy security paradigm is needed to balance the short-term need for energy diversification and the long-term targets of a net zero economy. The turmoil around the energy supply and the surging energy prices had a massive impact on the world’s transition to renewable energy, which is increasing at an even higher pace, as countries seek to capitalize on their energy security benefits. These issues, among many others, will be addressed in detail during the Symposium’s sessions.
